DERMATOLOGY IN PETS

At Evervet, our team of compassionate veterinarians are dedicated to providing expert care for your pets. From skin allergies to diagnosing and treating various skin issues, including atopy, we are here to support your pet's skin health every step of the way.

Common Dermatology Issues in Pets

Skin allergies in dogs and cats are among the most frequent dermatological issues we encounter. Pets may exhibit symptoms such as itching, redness, rash, hives, hair loss, and skin infections. Atopy is a common form of skin allergy in dogs, characterised by hypersensitivity to environmental allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and mould spores. At Evervet, our team is well-versed in diagnosing and managing these common skin issues, aiming to provide your pets with relief and comfort.

Diagnosing Skin Issues in Pets

Accurate diagnosis of dog skin allergies and cat skin allergies is crucial for effective treatment. Our veterinarians utilise their expertise in dermatology to conduct thorough examinations of your pet's skin and assess their medical history. We pay close attention to the specific symptoms your pet is experiencing, helping us identify the root cause of the skin issues.

Dermatological Diagnostics

Skin Tape Prep

Skin tape prep is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that can help us evaluate your pet's skin at a microscopic level. We may use this method to examine for potential fungal or bacterial infections, microscopic parasites, and other skin abnormalities. Our gentle approach ensures minimal discomfort for your pets during the procedure.

Skin Scrapes

For pets with suspected skin mite infestations, skin scrapes are a valuable diagnostic tool. This procedure involves gently scraping the skin to collect cells and mites for examination. We perform skin scrapes with sensitivity and care to ensure your pet's comfort throughout the process.

Comprehensive Testing and Skin Biopsies

Allergy Testing

In cases of suspected dog skin allergies and cat skin allergies, we may recommend allergy testing to pinpoint the allergens causing your pet's skin reactions. These tests may involve blood tests or intradermal skin testing. Identifying the allergens allows us to develop a customised treatment plan, reducing exposure to triggers and improving your pet's quality of life.

Skin Biopsies

In some cases, a skin biopsy may be necessary to obtain a definitive diagnosis. Our caring vet dermatology team will explain the procedure to you and address any concerns you may have. A skin biopsy involves the removal of a small sample of skin tissue for examination under a microscope. This allows us to identify the specific skin condition and tailor a precise treatment plan.

Treatment

Once we have accurately diagnosed your pet's skin issues, our vet dermatology team will create a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. This plan may include oral or topical medications, therapeutic shampoos, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle recommendations. Our goal is to relieve your pet's discomfort and address the underlying cause of their skin allergies, promoting healthy skin and a better quality of life.
