What inspired you to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, and how do you find it rewarding?

I started out with a simple love for animals as a young child but throughout my journey as a vet, I've developed a passion for helping pet owners to enrich the lives of their pets. What many may not realise is how people-focused being a vet actually is - a big part of my role is guiding pet families through the best and the worst of times. I have the privilege of assisting pets and their families through all stages of their lives - from bringing puppies and kittens into the world to supporting seniors in ageing gracefully.

I am looking forward to meeting all the pets and pet parents at Evervet.

Can you tell us about a time when you feel you’ve made a significant difference in a pet family’s life?

I love performing surgery and one of my most memorable cases was when a dog presented for a gastrointestinal blockage. The pre-surgery X-rays and ultrasound did not give me a clear indication of the exact object that was causing the obstruction. It turned out to be a Kinder Surprise toy capsule. There was a fully intact miniature Cinderella inside - it was a surprise within a surprise! The patient made a full recovery but unfortunately did become a repeat offender when I had to remove a tennis ball from his stomach several months later. Can you guess what breed he was?

How do you build strong relationships with families to ensure effective care of their pets?

I am a firm believer in a collaborative approach to veterinary care. My mission is not only to diagnose and treat but to empower and educate pet families, enabling them to actively participate in the decision-making process to achieve the best possible outcome. I aim to create an environment where questions are encouraged, and concerns are addressed with empathy and understanding.

Every pet is unique, and tailoring care plans to suit their individual needs is paramount.

What are your pro-hacks for ensuring pet families can safeguard their pet’s health?

Start managing dental health at any age - prevention is key! Invest time in training your pet to accept teeth brushing. It may take some effort, but the long-term health benefits are substantial. Brushing your pet's teeth regularly is the most effective way to prevent dental issues. I use an electric toothbrush with my own dog.

Another hot dental tip: consider the importance of variety. Most pet owners are normally very good at providing dental chews but I always recommend offering dental chews in different shapes, textures and sizes - this maximises engagement of all the teeth in the chewing process.

What do you love most about being part of the Evervet team, and how do you contribute to the exceptional care and service that clients expect?

Being part of the Evervet team means that I get to work with a diverse team - everyone brings their own unique set of skills and talent. I love that we collectively bring a high level of pet care to the community. Evervet provides an environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn and flourish. I am excited to expand my own skills through shared knowledge and also contribute to the growth of my colleagues.
