Staff Spotlight: Katie, Client Care

Anyone who has visited our Prahran location will likely have heard Katie's high-spirited tones, even before they meet her. Katie is our client care lead, and the sound of laughter and heartfelt reunions with pet families follow her wherever she goes.

Here Katie gives us some insights into her path in the veterinary profession, what she loves about her job, as well as her top tips for making a visit to the vet easier.

What inspired you to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, and how do you find it rewarding?

Animals have the most beautiful souls, and I am the happiest when I am around them. I worked in the pet care and shelter environment for over ten years, and then went to other industries, but I was never happy away from animals. I am at my happiest being able to support pet families care for their pets, and feel very lucky to work at Evervet.

What do you see as your main role at Evervet, and how do you make a significant difference in the lives of pet families and patients?

I am so delighted to greet all our clients, and get such a kick when our patients remember us and are so happy to be visiting. We give each other kisses and cuddles (the patients that is!), they get treats, and everyone has a wonderful time. I am so grateful I can be there to help and look after them all, during both happy and sad times.

How do you build strong relationships with families to ensure effective care of their pets?

I love a chat and a laugh. Pets are funny, they have their own little cute personalities and quirks, and it is fun to get to know them and have a giggle with their families. Some patients like to have a cuddle, have a tickle, have a lick, some like to do tricks or even just smell your hair. I really enjoy getting to know their idiosyncracies.

We are a family here, so helping pet families is my key focus; ensuring they're clear on the care plan for their pet, organised, and all receiving gold standard care.

What are your pro-hacks that pet families can use to make visits to the vet even better?

When you get a new puppy or Kitten, gently touch all of their paws regularly, and their mouths - even start to brush their teeth so this becomes part of their daily routine - we call this "body handling" and it goes a long way to reducing the anxiety pets might feel around these sorts of examinations at the vet later in their lives.

What do you love most about being part of the Evervet team, and how do you contribute to the exceptional care and service that clients expect?

In three years there has not been a day that I don't look forward to coming to work at Evervet. I love chatting with our clients and making sure that their pets are comfortable and have a great experience, treats certainly help and I make sure we NEVER run out! Pets are our family and deserve only the best.
